Nearly There

May is proving, once again, to be a wonderfully productive month, here in the Wood workshop at Chelsea College. But of course why wouldn't it be with only the matter of a small bag full of days left until all final year work must be complete. We are all but done now with students from first and second year as attention turns to the work that will be submitted for grading. It's all very exciting and below are some images taken from the past few days.

Details and Spaces

'Details and Spaces' is a temporary installation spatially linking Tate Britain and Chelsea college. Our 75 strong first year BA Interior and Spatial Design students, along with our very own Phillip Rutter, have been working away on this project now for several weeks and finally have their finished product. Two structures sit proudly on the Rootstein Hopkins parade ground, here at the college, made from a softwood, metal and oiled paper construction. Students surveyed architectural details found from Tate Britian and documented these in drawings and models. From these a historic handrail detail was chosen to enlarge forming the two structural forms. The exhibition will be open from 11th-17th May. Below are some images from the parade ground.

In the Mix.

There has been plenty to see in this past week with students from many of our courses here at Chelsea College, using the wood workshop. With the MA Fine Art having interim shows along with the Interior design students next week there has been an exciting mix of Undergraduates and Postgraduates rubbing shoulder as they endeavour to complete work. Below are some images taken from the past few days.

After the success of her last model Victoria gets on with the next stage.
George, a third year Fine Art student gets to grips with his cylindrical form.

First year BA Interior students have been working hard to complete their Tate Britain collaboration forms. They are certainly looking good and its been all hands on deck.

A paper rolling drawing mechanism nears its completion.

The Interior Design structures will be joined together to make a large form sited externally.
