With the end of term fast approaching it's been full steam ahead for the students here at Chelsea College. For many, deadlines for work are upon them and for others it's just about creating their first piece of work in the Wood Workshop with us. As always there is a great mix of students and work, representing most of the courses here at the college and it makes for a fun environment to be in. Below are some images taken form the past few days.

The finishing touches being added to this lovely screen.
Never a clamp when you need one.
Another group from Graphics getting on with their latest bunch of letters.
They certainly did!
Care and attention to detail here in this small container.
With a bit of heat added this piece of mirrored styrene has been transformed.
Interior Design students heading upwards creating this piece of Architectural furniture.

Topping out.
The hot air gun getting used a lot this week. Here acrylic bowls get distorted.

Bending acrylic forms on the line bender.
And there's the hot air gun going for it again!

Getting A Feel For It All

This term is well and truly in full swing now, here at Chelsea College, as all of our inductions are now behind us. And it has come as no surprise to find a whirlwind of activity with us in the Wood Workshop. It's been a good mix of undergraduates and postgraduate students getting involved in, what for many are, their first forays into our workshop. As always it's great to see all of the diversity on show and as always, here are some images taken from the past few days.

Making Models

There has been a bit of a push this term for many of our students here at Chelsea College to learn how to make models. It has been our job in the Wood Workshop to show them the possibilities with an in-depth look at tools, materials and techniques. Stef is the main man where models are concerned and despite not very often featuring in the blog photos, he was captured in the images below in full flow. To find out more about model making visit our page http://chelsea-workbench.blogspot.co.uk/p/model-making-guide.html

Add a bit of sparkle to the place.

Chelsea College has seen a few things in it's time here at Millbank and we had to wait until the cover of darkness to witness the most recent offering. As part of the celebration for being on site for ten years, the Rootstein Hopkins Parade ground played host to a fireworks display of some note. Designed, organised and played out by BA students from Interior and Spatial Design with staff members Francis Thorburn, Robin Jenkins and Shibboleth Shechter at the helm, it was nothing short of spectacular. Well done to everyone involved.

The scene is set.
The opening sequence with smoke flares to add to the mood.
The first flames begin.

And then it's times for the rockets.

Francis and Robin right in the thick of it.

It's Graphics!

That time of year is with us once again when students from Graphic Design Communication join us in the Wood workshop to cut letters. This year each group are producing a word to then be photographed in an imaginative location. We continue to induct students within our workshop with general machine inductions, stretcher making and model making sessions all on offer and it's always an enjoyable time for us as we meet many new students. Below are some images from the past few days.

First Graphics group prepare their letters for cutting

An hour or two later, all done.
A model making session with FDA Interior Design seemed to go well with lots on show on the table at the end.

The same group stayed on at the end to play with some of the materials they had been shown and produce some initial structures.
